PROGRAMS
The
Iowa Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program:
Care for yourself by taking care of your health. Three of the
most important ways for a woman to take care of her health are to:
- Do a monthly self breast exam;
- have a regular Pap test, pelvic exam, and breast exam;
- have a yearly mammogram (if age 40 or over)
You may be eligible to receive cancer screening tests at no cost
through this program. The program has arranged for health care
providers across Iowa to provide breast exams, mammograms, Pap tests,
pelvic exams, and limited diagnostic tests. Additionally, you may
be able to receive referrals for breast and cervical cancer treatment
coverage should you be diagnosed with cancer or a pre-cancerous
condition.
To receive free services through this program, you must be over the
age of 40 (women under age 40 with certain conditions
may be eligible for services); have no health insurance,
insurance that does not cover these services, cannot pay insurance
deductibles for co-payments, or have no Medicare Part B coverage; and meet the following income
and insurance eligibility guidelines:

Guidelines.

Youth Substance Abuse Prevention:
Project TNT-This is
a tobacco prevention curriculum taught to the fifth through eighth
graders of Worth County. It provides information about the
consequences of tobacco use, changing beliefs and perceptions of
prevalence of tobacco use, and decision making. It also teaches
effective communication, refusal skills and is an effective tool to
increase self-esteem. |
Project Northland-Alcohol abuse
prevention program about making positive, healthy choices. Four
levels of programming--6th grade (Slick Tracy), 7th (Amazing
Alternatives), 8th (PowerLines), and high school (Class Action).
Each level is 5-8 sessions. |

6th-9th grades in classrooms at N-K for one quarter school year. |
QuePasa-is a youth-led organization in the
Northwood-Kensett and North Central School districts for junior high and
high school students who have a desire to live substance-free lives.
The youth are educated and then educate younger students on the effects
of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. Learn about safe choices,
responsibility and life skills. |
Prime for Life-is an under 21 alcohol
education program. It is intended to educate young people on new
information that helps reduce risk for any future alcohol or drug
related problems throughout life. The program also provides a
clear understanding of how our own biology and our behavior affects our
risk for problems. It teaches young people how their choices can
create risk and the importance of always making low-risk choices about
alcohol and drugs. |
Project Alert-Substance abuse
reduction program that discourages initial use and tries to prevent
experimenters from becoming regular users. |
